The objective of ending poverty means, among other things, offering employment to people who need it, in decent working conditions. Through our Human Resources policy on the farms and in the warehouse, plus our Equality Plan and the labor agreements in this campaign, Biosabor supports business action BA1: Commit to the creation of decent and stable jobs, and also BA3: Ensure decent working conditions in the company and in the supply chain.
The results of our effort is exemplified in the achievement of a balanced proportion of men and women in the workforce, a high rate of hiring foreigners, and a growing percentage of permanent contracts. In addition, the farms have houses associated with our Rooting Program for foreign workers and their families, and in the central nave we provide a dining service. Second-hand food products are distributed to workers to avoid waste and to collaborate in feeding the people who work for Biosabor.
We comply with the business action BA1: Ensure the best health outcomes for employees and surrounding communities in our own operations and supply chain, through occupational safety and health systems, the annual review of legionella in the facilities, the elaboration of menus following a nutrition plan in the canteen, through the existence of a defibrillator on the premises, and through training for employees especially in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid and firefighting.
The training work developed in Biosabor promotes this SDG, particularly in Targets 4.3 and 4.4. The organization has a Training Plan wherein workers from all areas and positions are trained each year. The courses that are taught encourage the acquisition of the competencies and skills necessary for plant work, administrative work and management. Our plan ensures the ongoing formation of workers and guarantees the constant improvement and updating of their professional profiles.
In order to guarantee gender equality and non-discrimination in support of Targets 5.1 and 5.5 of this Goal, we have an Equality Plan at Biosabor. In it we establish guidelines for action and the measures we carry out to promote egalitarian attitudes within the organization.
As our General Director frequently says, “Companies are people.” That’s how important the role of our workers is for us. Therefore, we naturally seek the achievement of Targets 8.5 and 8.8. Our activity is labor-intensive in the harvest periods, so we offer a large quantity of jobs without ever disregarding the health and safety of each employee.
Our commitment to decent employment also urges us to take all necessary measures to ensure that the rights of our workers are respected and that they feel comfortable when working for Biosabor. By organizing informative and training days along with our partners, and carrying out GRASP and SMETA audits on the farms (financed by Biosabor), we guarantee compliance with business action BA1: Support decent working conditions for all employees of the company and the supply chain, through alliances to develop the capacity of suppliers to do the same.
In Biosabor we clearly contribute to goals 10.2 and 10.3 with our Equality Plan, by which we commit ourselves to non-discrimination against any group.
We are an organization with a balanced presence of men and women, with a large proportion of workers from different backgrounds and beliefs, and we have achieved our goal of hiring and integrating people with disabilities into our team.
