The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) of tomato La Cañada, is the only PGI for tomato that exists in Spain, which makes it a seal of guarantee for production.
Among its special traits is being produced in the vicinity of the Natural Park Cabo de Gata-Níjar, an enclave prized as unique in the world for its sensory and environmental characteristics.
The tomato La Cañada is the result of a traditional way of growing since the early 1960s when farmers have cultivated this tomato in the area from Vega de Almería to the Llanos de la Cañada and Níjar.
